Nadia Granados on the Colombianización series: „I chose to work with the performativity of masculinity, using the figure of the drag king to question the construction of violent male identity – an identity that is rarely scrutinised, unlike socalled dissenting identities, which are constantly challenged. This exploration leads to an association between the formation of masculinity and the use of waged violence as a means of gaining recognition in the male world, where, under capitalism, power is linked to purchasing ability.

In this context, I am particularly interested in the connection between war – an industry fueled by massive financial investment in lethal weaponry – and the men who, in an effort to reinforce their masculinity, choose to participate in it through various roles and factions. My work in this series is deeply inspired by Gore Capitalism by Sayak Valencia.“

Through these videos, Granados hijacks, deconstructs, mocks, and ultimately subverts the propaganda that the Colombian government has promoted since the early 2000s –propaganda designed to justify extrajudicial killings, civilian massacres, and U.S. imperialist control.
