German with English subtitles

Addressee Unknown tells the story of a woman who leaves her family and develops a relationship with a Turkish man. Shot in Wiesbaden and Berlin, the film unfolds as an epistolary novel between the embittered husband and the wife who has left him and is confronted with the reality of racism in West Germany. The husband’s reactions as well as those of the couple’s social environment reveal a coldness that the film short-circuits with a more general evaluation of “German” society.
