Magda lives with her friends in a Berlin house whose days are numbered. All of them, in their own way, follow some kind of obsession. A certain delirium transforms everyday life into a dreamlike event, a trance-like movement towards an uncertain future. Max Taurus, a talented snoop who calls himself a “detective,” follows a trail that leads him to this dilapidated house, where he believes he can prevent a murder. In the process, he gets caught up in a labyrinthine story from which he can no longer escape. Macumba represents the rhythm and enchantment of a younger generation that refuses to conform to the norms of social adaptation. Burning oil wells, volcanic eruptions, and messengers from the underworld are not the only signs of transience. The smashing of the wrecking ball to the music of Silvestre Revueltas becomes the swan song of a 1960s attitude to life.
