Cortiñas presents a breathtaking tour de force through the depths of the human psyche with this work, designed as a loop. What appears on the surface to be an unresolved mother-daughter conflict increasingly reveals itself to be a person’s struggle for identity and autonomy, a struggle for a role in life that can neither be won nor lost, but rather culminates in a never-ending “vicious cycle”. The only temporary solution is to throw oneself into the staging of a play, to save oneself from the bottomless pit by entering the stage. (Petra Pechtheyden)
